First Choice Garage History

The First Choice Garage and Workshop has been established for over 25 years. Still serving the communities of Hamworthy, Upton, Poole and surrounding areas, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and customer focused approach. Originally a Volvo specialist, the businesses has certainly evolved and grown over time.

We now cater for all makes and models of cars and also vans. Lots of our customers have been coming to the garage for many years because of the trusted, friendly, efficient and good value service we offer.

New Management, Same Great Service

Since taking over the workshop in 2023, Toby the new owner and Lead Mechanic has brought updates to working practices and invested in new equipment, but the friendly, customer focused approach remains the same. Toby brings with him 20 years’ experience and knowledge of the industry and has worked on a vast variety of motor vehicles. As a result, there are very few scenarios he hasn’t come across.

Growing up in Dorset, Toby always had a mechanical mind – fixing push bikes or helping his Dad on the building site. After school, Toby began a proper 3 year apprenticeship at a respected garage in Wimborne that specialised in engine as well as gearbox rebuilds. Dealing with all aspects of motor mechanics, the ethos was to repair if possible rather than just replace with a new parts. This lead Toby to a greater understanding of vehicle technology and helped maintain vehicles in the most reliable and cost effective way for the customer. Toby has continued this ‘can-do’, diligent approach throughout his career.

Toby quickly worked his way up the Bournemouth motor industry and has gained vast experience – having worked for both main dealerships and independent garages including vintage, high-end and prestige brands in the form of Porsche, Bentley and Rolls Royce. Working on such exclusive marques nurtured Toby’s passion for high quality workmanship and attention to detail.
